My second grade students were enamored by a recent math game that was part of a curriculum. I found myself getting frustrated when they would choose the game because it was no longer challenging, but had them practice math facts that they had already mastered. It was the game itself that brought them back for more, not the math practice. I quickly realized that I should create my own games with dice and playing markers, and include math facts that they had yet to master. Below is a link to three different math games and 42 game boards. Students can practice adding on to the rolled dice by using the game’s name. Each game begins with adding one to the rolled dice and ends with the final game board that has the players add 14.
